Grown on the farm.
Produced on the farm.
Barrel Farm is the embodiment of a family's passion for winemaking, brewing, and farming, all rooted in the beautiful landscape of Albany. A true labour of love, Barrel Farm was born from the Buxton Family’s dream to create a place where their quality wines and craft beers can be enjoyed by all, while preserving the history and authenticity of the property. The name itself represents three barrels: winemaking, brewing, and the ocean waves the family like to surf.
The 38-acre property, one of Albany's early dairy farms, has been lovingly restored by the entire Buxton family. With a focus on maintaining the authenticity of the property, they have retained original features including the historic dairy and shearing sheds, now integral parts of the new venue, while incorporating rescued jarrah timber from some of Albany’s original settlement cottages.
Every bottle of wine and pint of beer tells a story - of family, tradition, and a deep connection to the land.
From working farm to Barrel Farm
The story of Barrel Farm begins in 2019 when the Buxton family purchased the old farm with a vision to restore its original charm and bring their love of wine, beer, and the land to fruition.
Opening in November 2024, the roots of this dream actually stretch back to 2000, when the family’s first vintage was produced at Yilgarnia, a vineyard owned by Peter and Peg Buxton near Denmark, Western Australia.
For decades, the family dreamt of creating a cellar door that not only showcased their love for wine but embraced a rustic farm feel that was accessible to all, and with this in mind, Barrel Farm has been lovingly created for all to enjoy.
For over two years, the farm has been the focus and gathering place for all generations of the Buxton family, working together every weekend to transform the property into what you see today. Restoring the original dairy shed, chimney and toilet - this is a venue rich with history.
As you meander down the drive, you'll find 50 olive trees rescued from a nearby farm and close to 2000 original red clinker bricks used on the fireplace were rescued from a 100 year old house that was being demolished, each piece telling a story of resilience and renewal.
The farm is now a thriving hub of activity and welcomes all visitors to relax and socialise. Stage two of the project will bring brewing on-site to the old shearing shed.
50 Olive Trees were rescued and re-homed to line the Barrel Farm driveway and grounds with a 100% survival rate!
2000 red clinker bricks were recycled from a 100 year old house in Albany that was due for demolition.
